@theMTSpace     #IMPACT25Festival

A co-production in-development, There are No Gays in Chechnya will premiere in its newest form,
at the IMPACT 23 Theatre Festival, September 26th – October 1st, 2023.

“When Isaac Mule approached me to be a director for Page1’s new piece, There Are No Gays in Chechnya, I was beyond honoured. We had numerous discussions about previous iterations, Isaac’s vision for future development, and what I could contribute from my experience in physical, intercultural, international theatre creation. The content of this work aligned with mine and MT Space’s values from the beginnings of these conversations and has become even more relevant on a global scale today.”

– Pam Patel, Artistic Director.

Combining research and first-hand testimony from a survivor currently living in Canada, There Are No Gays In Chechnya tells the difficult story of the gay purge that is still ongoing in Chechnya.

An MT Space and Page1 Theatre collaboration, this new co-production will have a workshop presentation at IMPACT 23–festival performance dates, development updates, and the show’s cast and creative team to be announced soon!

Acknowledge the Land & People

With gratitude and appreciation, MT Space acknowledges that we live, learn, and benefit on the traditional territory of
the Chonnonton, Anishinaabeg (Ojibway, Mississauga, Chippewa, and Algonquin), and Haudenosaunee Confederacy
(Six Nations including the Mohawk, Cayuga, Onondaga, Seneca, Oneida, and Tuscarora Nations).

This includes disputed territory known colonially as the Haldimand Tract,
which originally included six miles on each side of the Grand River, from the river’s source to Lake Erie.

We acknowledge our responsibilities to share land and resources peacefully
under the ‘Dish with One Spoon’ and ’Two Row’ covenants.

We honour that these Nations of people have been living on, working on, and caring for
this place from time immemorial and continue to do so today.
