Youth & Young Artists

MT Space believes strongly in the engagement of diverse children and youth of many ages and skill levels in developing personal storytelling skills and fostering connections to one’s personal voice through theatre-based workshops and performances. These experiences build lifelong resilience and encourage the radical sharing of profound stories—the release of internal creative ideas, imagination, and energy. Offerings for children and youth range from school-based programs like the Newcomer Youth Theatre Project to the more theatre skills-focused MT Space Young Company, to incubated projects like Cosmic Fishing Theatre’s DiSCoVeR and kids and family-focused programming present at IMPACT17.

Newcomer Youth Theatre Projects

Over the past thirteen years, the MT Space (in partnership with YMCA of Three Rivers, Immigrant Services) has worked with hundreds of immigrant and refugee youth from high schools in Kitchener, Waterloo, and Cambridge, to gain confidence and build community through the Newcomer Youth Theatre Project.

MT Space Young Company

The Newcomer Youth Theatre Projects feeds directly into MT Space Young Company, a more in-depth theatre training program that allows students to further develop their skills as theatre artists while receiving mentorship from local cultural community leaders.
