AMAL

Note: Last fall, we presented our gripping production, AMAL, after six years in the making. The play explored the complex narrative of borders and land. After a successful run and international tour, AMAL returns home to the 2019 IMPACT Festival.

On July 16, MT Space announced several alterations to the IMPACT lineup as result of a significant funding shortfall, including the cancellation of AMAL. Since then, an anonymous angel donor came forward to fund the production’s return. We are extremely grateful to be able to raise the question again, “what does it mean to occupy, to resist, to survive?”, at the beautiful Conrad Centre for the Performing Arts this September.

Thank you, and please read more about our funding shortfall and the crowdfunding campaign at www.indiegogo.com/projects/help-us-make-impact. Help us bring powerful productions like AMAL from all over the world to the Waterloo Region. Help us make IMPACT!

Update: Violence(s) will play instead of the 9:30PM performance of AMAL. For further information see https://mtspace.ca/impact19festival-updates/.

Through the passing on of stories to a younger generation, AMAL shares the history and journey of a Syrian family, raising the questions: what does it mean to occupy, to resist, to survive?
