As part of Contemporary Art Forum Kitchener and Area (CAFKA) 2005 - x industria.

The MT Space presents an experimental series of improvised pieces of theatrical motion-activity derived from encounters with the art projects at the Forum. Through theatrical motion, the art projects become unconventional performance spaces as the performers explore relationships between the physical structures of the works and the performers' emotional impulses triggered by these structures.

Asian Earthquake and Tsunami Relief Fundraiser

On Friday, January 21, 2005, The MT Space hosted a variety show to raise money for the Red Cross Asia Earthquake and Tsunami Relief Fund.

Emcee Jasminka Klacar began the evening with a moment of silence to honour those affected by the tragedy, then each act began with a short presentation on one of the areas affected: India by Sunanda Sachdev, of the K-W YMCA's Immigrant Settlement Program and one of the organizers of the evening; and Sri Lanka by Bala Thambypillai.

The audience was treated to music by two local Latin singers, Otto Morataya (also the MT Space's musical director) and Jorge Gomez Cortez, as well as a classical Indian vocalist Priyanka Sinha, on stage for the first time since arriving in Canada late last year. The music contrasted with video and monologue excerpts from the one-act play, Bipolar, Bare by Narsimaham Chelluri, and spoken word poetry by Nicholas Cumming.

The second act featured dance numbers by the Callanish Celtic Dancers and Indian Classical dance by students of the Abiramy Dance Academy and concluded with music by Bonchiku Y. Hoshi on the shakuhachi (Japanese bamboo flute).

Despite the ill weather conditions, which limited attendance, the MT Space still succeeded in generating over $600.00 in donations - 100% of which went to the Red Cross. According to Tom Barber, Business & Marketing Manager of the MT Space, "For me, the real accomplishment was having so many different cultures work together towards a common goal."
