Artistic Director presents Keynote at Congress 2012

MT Space Artistic Director Majdi Bou-Matar presented a keynote address to open the Canadian Association for Theatre Research (CATR) component of Congress of the Humanities 2012, being held in Waterloo Region.

In his presentation, 'Displacement to Occupation : From There, to Here, to Where?', Majdi spoke about the profound influence of his childhood spent in Lebanon during the civil war years in the 70s and 80s on his theatre practice. The talk also gave an overview of his immigration to Canada, the inception of the MT Space and the body of work the company has engaged in—both in professional theatre and in community building.

The talk was accompanied by a performance of our theatre for social change play, My Paper.

The keynote was delivered this morning in the Theatre of the Arts at the University of Waterloo—where MT Space held it's first workshop in the summer of 2004, almost eight years ago.
