Tawiah M'carthy

Tawiah Ben M'carthy is a Ghanaian born, Toronto based theatre artist. His previous theatre acting credits include, Agyeman in Obaaberima (Buddies in Bad Times Theatre), Bernard in The Boys in the Band (Ghostlight Projects), Damien in Man2Man (Kwame Stephens), Nana in The Kente Cloth (Summerworks 2008), An interactive improvised performance; CHAT (Plural Productions) on the solo-stage at the 29th Annual Rhubarb! Festival, Private Nolan in The Fort At York (Crate Productions), Franny in Balm in Gilead (Column 13 Actors Company), Yahweh in Not Wanted on the Voyage, Dumaine in Loves Labours Lost, David/Ahmet in Three Birds Alighting on a Field, Bottom in A Midsummer Night's Dream and Duncan in Macbeth (York University Theatre).

Collective Creation participations include, Offending the Audience (York Theatre), The Art of Catching Pigeons by Torchlight (Summerworks Theatre Festival, 2009), Cover Me with Your Shadow (Suburbanbeast) and Body 13 (MT Space; Impact 2011)

Playwright credits include Obaaberima, with Buddies in Bad Times Theatre which premiere as part of 2012/2013 season, it was developed through the Young Creators Unit under the direction of Evalyn Parry. Tawiah's first solo-show, The Kente Cloth was part of the 2008 Summerworks Festival.

Art Direction/Facilitation: Tawiah M'carthy was the  Artistic Director of TheNextEdition from 2010 to 2012. As the Creator of the arts collective, Tawiah directed the 2011 Showcase Inspired By Change Powered By Voice. He taught the Creative Expression Class at Across Boundaries Mental Health Centre in 2009, developing and facilitating theatre and movement workshops for the clients at the centre.     

He studied Theatre at York University (2006).
